ESTROGEN
Let us address the elephant in the room, shall we? Men are often unaware that estrogen (estradiol) plays a key role in our day-to-day health and well-being. It really needs to be in “balance” (key word) with the rest of our hormones, especially Testosterone, if we want to be in a healthy state and feel well. “There is now compelling evidence that endogenous production of estrogens in men plays a significant role in cardiovascular health and disease…” (Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism)
Estrogen is required for the healthy physiological functions of:
- Brain Function
- Sexual Function / Interest
- Heart Health
- Cholesterol
- Bone Density (especially lumbar spine)
- Mood
The necessary estradiol level for men is dependent on testosterone. If your testosterone is low, your body does not have the necessary means to create more estradiol. Therefore, your estrogen (estradiol) may be low leading to signs and symptoms of low estrogen:
- Depression
- Fatigue
- Sexual Dysfunction
- Irritability
- Water Retention
- Bone Loss
- Fat accumulation
- Sleeping Often
- Anxiety

SUPPLEMENTS
Creatine
Creatine is an endogenous amino acid derivative produced by vertebrate animals and occurs primarily in muscle cells… (National Institutes of Health).
Creatine is what your body makes, by way of your kidneys and liver, after you have eaten a protein rich diet (typically fish and red meat). Your muscles then convert creatine into creatine phosphate, which is then turned into Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP). This helps your body produce energy quickly and allows you to have those explosive workouts.
Creatine Monohydrate (powder) is recommended as the best supplement to take. Other supplements that have creatine, along with other unknown things, are not recommended. That way you know what you are really putting into your body.
We all know our own bodies and know what works and what does not work. If you see a difference, increased output in your workout at the gym, then it is probably working. Unfortunately, not everyone responds the same way, so if you are not experiencing the same results, then you should stop taking it because it is not helping you.
Creatine has been well studied and if taken correctly, can be safe and effective (when taken as recommended). Remember to stay hydrated and as always, consult with your provider when thinking about taking any supplements.
